Seek the hidden bonanza in the Year of the Golden Rabbit to ensure a good harvest
"My advice for those wishing to avert disaster is to balance the missing elements with crystals and carry water with you at all times, especially those who plan to travel a lot or do business overseas. It would be wise to have cosmic protection."
EACH YEAR, I look forward to this time when I share my annual forecast with readers and help them prepare for the year ahead. Those who attended my KL Extravaganza recently would have already heard that the winds the Golden Rabbit Year brings with it contain both good and bad news. There are serious afflictions ahead as well as hidden bonanza to be found. Those who know how to subdue the bad and tap into the positive surprises will surely harvest the best of this coming year.
GENERAL OUTLOOK
The Year of the Golden Rabbit starts off on a lucky foot. Lap Chun (Spring) arrives on the second day of the new year, and this indicates the promise of growth. Hence, no matter how bleak this year may appear to some, there will be economic salvation ahead.
The second bit of news takes on a more grievous tone. The Four Pillars Chart for this year reveals some very significant clashes between the upper and lower elements. When not one but all four pillars clash so strongly, it foretells a year that will be plagued with disasters and global-scale disagreements.
Looking closer, we find that the chart is severely short of the Water element. When the Water element is in short supply, it usually means that the distribution of water qi is unbalanced; indicating the likelihood of major natural disasters that will shift the precipitation of water quite drastically.
Last year, Water was completely missing from the Tiger Year chart, and I predicted that there would be water-related natural disasters. Indeed, 2010 suffered some of the worst floods the world had ever seen including the massive flooding in Pakistan that has displaced over 20 million people as well as in Nigeria, Brazil and Queensland, Australia.
Upon deeper study of the Four Pillars chart, the Earth element is also missing. Without this element, the environmental (both geological and political) stability of this year is undermined. Furthermore, the Flying Star Chart for 2011 shows that the No.7 Violent
Star flies into the centre.
The combination of the clashing energies, the violent star, and the shortage of two very vital elements in the chart alerts me that 2011 could very well go down in history with some shocking turn of events in the international political scene. A largescale war or even a high-profile assassination could be on the cards.
My advice for those wishing to avert disaster is to balance the missing elements with crystals and carry water with you at all times, especially those who plan to travel a lot or do business overseas. It would be wise to have cosmic protection.
AUSPICIOUS FLYING STARS
This year, all the favourable Flying Stars are located in the four secondary directions of the compass - the Northwest, Northeast, Southwest and Southeast.
These four are the locations of the four major Trigrams, each representing the four individuals of the family - the Father, Mother, Daughters and Sons. Hence, 2011 is an excellent year for strengthening family ties - a time for reunion. It is also a time to start a family.
The luckiest sector is in the Northwest. The Big Prosperity Star 8 enters this palace and benefits all those whose houses face this direction. The Northwest is also the Palace of the patriarch and male leaders around the world will feel a surge of confidence and prosperity.
The second lucky sector is in the Northeast which enjoys the luck of the Wealth Star No.1. This good fortune benefits the sons of the family, and is activated with the presence of water.
The third auspicious sector is located in the Southeast where the Divine Star No.6 has landed, bringing heaven luck to the daughters and to those who are lucky enough to have an entrance or a bedroom here.
The fourth lucky star is the No.4 Star, located in the Southwest. This romantic star can help those seeking love or matrimony to find a suitable partner if their bedroom is located here.
But a word of caution on this star - the presence of too much water here can invite sex scandals and infidelity! So make sure your Southwest sector is kept free of too much water this year. This star benefits the matriarch of the house.
REVERSING FORTUNE
As always, it is vital to take note of the major afflictions of the year. The dangerous Five Yellow lands itself in the East this year, bringing its misfortune to those whose entrances, and bedrooms, are sited here.
This is why Rabbits, whose direction is the East, will feel their luck much depleted this year.
Adding to this is the Grand Duke Jupiter who has also shifted location to the East. This means that anyone who is planning renovation works must avoid digging or banging in this part of the house.
The Grand Duke is not to be taken lightly; offending him by facing his direction or disturbing his abode brings grave consequences to one's luck for the year.
Directly opposite the Grand Duke is the Three Killings which has moved to the West. The Three Killings brings three types of bad luck that attacks your reputation, your financial position and your relationships.
Bad luck from the Three Killings is activated when you renovate in this sector, and when you sit with your back facing the West. This malevolent energy afflicts the luck of the Rooster, who is also weakened by being directly opposite the Grand Duke.
I am a great advocate of using powerful symbols to combat afflictions. In all my 20 years of practising feng shui, I have found them to be reliable and effective methods of subduing these afflicted energies.
Certainly, the East-West axis is quite severely distressed this year. However, for those who are either Roosters or Rabbits, the situation can be mitigated by introducing the North-South axis.
Hence, the presence of the Rat (North) and the Horse (South) together with the Rabbit (East) and Rooster (West) forms the cardinal cross; a combination powerful enough to nullify the harm that afflicts these two signs.
My advice to those who are either Rabbits or Roosters is to invite these animal signs of the cardinal directions into your home. If they are already your family members, you are in luck!
If not, you can invite symbols of them or wear them as key-chain talismans, bracelet charms or pendants to benefit from their energy throughout the year.
Some of you might wonder how these symbols work. Quite frankly I've been asking the same question myself for 20 years - but in the end, what does it matter how they work, as long as they work! Finally, the Violent Star that dominates the centre this year must also be subdued. Don't wait until its evil nature has descended upon you or your family before you decide to take action.
There is gold to be found in the Year of the Golden Rabbit, and it is my fervent wish that you find it and make the best of it.
May this be a year that fulfils all your wishes and may it bring you prosperity, longevity and happiness.
Defining the Rabbit personality
PEOPLE born in the Year of the Rabbit often make ideal diplomats or politicians as they are imbued with grace, culture and beautiful manners. This makes them very hospitable and attentive people who take care of those around them. Although Rabbit people get on well with everyone, at heart, they are basically reserved creatures and are only really happy when they are engrossed in some sort of scholarly or intellectual activity. Most Rabbit people harp on the importance of details, paying close attention to everything from colour, design and furniture to food and conversation. And only when they are sure that everything has been arranged as they wished, can they relax and have fun. Rabbit people often lead a conservative lifestyle with their security being their most important consideration. This quality of opting for safety over risk may cause them to miss good opportunities. But they do not thrive in a competitive or aggressive environment. They get anxious if forced to take risks and are unsettled by unpredictable situations. However, Rabbit people are sensitive to the world around them and can be sentimental and compassionate. They are easily moved by other people's personal problems.
ROMANCE
Rabbit people make great partners in relationships. Being romantic, sweet and faithful, they never lack for suitors. However, they are in extreme need of trust, security and tenderness in a relationship and are really happy when they manage to create an intimate and relaxed atmosphere. They expect their beloved to be on the same wavelength as them and any hurtful or careless comment will lead them to withdraw into their shell and place serious doubts in their mind. In spite of their devotion to their loved ones, Rabbit people also demand alone time for themselves. Sometimes, it takes time for them to find a partner but when they find their soulmate, their attachment is boundless. The Rabbit is compatible with the Goat, Boar and Dog; less compatible with the Rat, Rabbit, Dragon, Ox, Tiger, Snake and Monkey; and least compatible with the Rooster and Horse.
CAREER
Call them cautious or call them timid, Rabbit people will undertake nothing before weighing all the pros and cons from every angle. That is probably why Rabbit people do their work so well. They are balanced in outlook and cautious in approach, and like to be informed of all the facts before making a judgement. They usually cannot bear the cut and thrust of business life, preferring work that is more methodical and reliable. At times, they tend to be too conservative in their thinking but are gifted with a positive yet practical outlook that few can fault. They also have a talent to avoid trouble and identify opportunities. But it is important to remember that their creative talents to the fore only when they are allowed to work at their own pace. So the ideal jobs for Rabbit people are, for example, as a counsellor, barrister, judge, solicitor, adviser or secretary. As a rule, colleagues value the Rabbit people's tact and modesty and the fact that they are unlikely to step over others to achieve their goals. Some famous Rabbits include Ingrid Bergman, Lewis Carroll, John Cleese, Peter Fonda, Cary Grant, Bob Hope, Michael Keaton, John Keats, Roger Moore, Whitney Houston, George Orwell, Neil Simon, Sting and Orson Welles.
What the Rabbit year brings
How the various zodiac animal signs fare in the year ahead
WHILE the general outlook for the Year of the Rabbit appears somewhat discouraging, there are some uplifting news for eight of the 12 zodiac animal signs, says feng shui consultant Lillian Too. "Thankfully, the stars of the 24 Mountains coupled with good annual Flying Stars provide excellent relief for many of the animal signs, especially for the Ox, Snake and Horse." So, here are the highlights of what Too sees for each of the animal signs in the Year of the Rabbit:
RABBIT
(1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999)
The Rabbit has a tough year ahead. The Five Yellow brings misfortune, so this is a year to lie low and make sure that all the cures in your home are put in place. Wear plenty of protective charms - and if possible, wear the five-element pagoda pendant at all times. Burn lots of incense to appease the local landlords - this will go a long way in improving your luck.
|
|
|
|
DRAGON
(1940,1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000)
The Dragon will enjoy a good year ahead, with plenty of little achievements that add up to a pretty good year. Heaven luck is also on the Dragon's side, so help
will manifest when help is needed. But being so close to the Five Yellow means misfortune can set in anytime. Best to subdue the Five Yellow and carry the five- element pagoda charm at all times. |
|
|
|
SNAKE
(1941,1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001)
The Snake is in for a very heavenly year. Money and success are indicated by the two Small Auspicious Stars and one Big Auspicious Star, and what's more, the Divine Flying Star flies into the Snake's palace. All this adds up to a really fortuitous year for the Snake, punctuated with both small and large achievements. Capture it with Heaven Luck activators. |
|
|
|
HORSE
(1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002)
The Horse can look forward to big money. Flanked by two Big Auspicious Stars, prosperity is literally at the Horse's doorstep. However, all this money-making will take its toll in terms of health - as the energy of the Horse is sapped by both the Illness Flying Star and the Star of Reducing Energy. My advice is to place plenty of feng shui health cures. |
|
|
|
GOAT
(1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003)
The Goat will enter a domestic year. Money won't be a problem as the Big Auspicious Star and the Earth Seal protect against loss. Marriage, romance and homemaking are on the cards in the Sheep's life this year. Excellent year for the Goat to get married or have babies! |
|
|
|
MONKEY
(1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004)
The Monkey had a difficult Tiger Year, but this year, will be slightly better. Love and romance is indicated for the Monkey, so this isa good year to tie the knot. Small robbery is indicated, so the Monkey should wear protective charms to disarm this star. |
|
|
|
ROOSTER
(1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005)
The Rooster faces a challenging year ahead. The Star of Natural Disaster strikes at the heart of the Rooster and being flanked by the Three Killings makes matters worse. Roosters should lie low and use protective charms to improve their luck. |
|
|
|
DOG
(1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006)
The Dog will have an average year. Money is indicated - but it comes with conflict and obstacles. Activate the Northwest direction with the Crystal 8 and use the strong metal sounds generated by singing bowls and bells to clear your living space regularly. Offering incense to local landlords will also help tremendously. |
|
|
|
PIG
(1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007)
The Pig has a great year! Flanked by the Big and Small Auspicious Stars, the Pig also enjoys the Prosperity Flying Star. So this is definitely a money-making year for the Pig. Make the most of it by activating the Northwest direction appropriately and supporting all your friends and allies. |
|
|
|
RAT
(1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008)
The Rat enjoys an excellent year of auspiciousness, flanked by two Big Auspicious Stars, bringing prosperity and gold! But the Quarrelsome Star makes an appearance, bringing stress and obstacles to the Rat. This can be overcome by inviting the Dragon - the ally of the Rat - into your home. |
|
|
|
OX
(1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009)
The Ox is in for a spectacular year and is the luckiest animal sign in 2011! The Ox enjoys the divine patronage of the Golden Deity, who brings cosmic blessings and protection to those she favours. The Ox is also flanked by two Big Auspicious Stars and visited by the Wealth No.1 Flying Star, so this is definitely the year for the Ox to pursue his or her financial dreams with confidence and in earnest! |
|
|
|
TIGER
(1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010)
The Tiger will have a pretty good year, too! The Big Auspicious Star and the Heaven Seal bring prosperity and authority from Heaven, indicating possible promotion or change of status. But the Five Yellow can cause misfortune, so be sure to subdue it with the five-element pagoda. |
